Who We Are

Our beliefs, history and vision.

What we believe

We believe in the triune God of the Bible, incarnate by the Spirit in the Lord Jesus Christ - who creates, redeems, sustains, rules, and transforms all things and all people. We proclaim God’s mission through Jesus and the Church - the good news that by His grace God calls all people into covenant relationship with Himself that they may enjoy and glorify God’s goodness now and forever. We are a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the United Church of Christ (U.C.C.).

Where we come from

Union Church is a 100-year-old Christian church in the heart of Little Tokyo in Downtown Los Angeles. The church was formed in 1918 when three Japanese speaking congregations joined together, united by a desire to follow Christ. Union Church has faithfully served the local community through many turbulent times in the 20th century, including the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII. We continue to reflect Christ's love and serve the ever-changing neighborhood downtown.

Where we're headed

Union Church is committed to fostering a family built around hope in Jesus. Our call is to Love God and Bless the City. We seek to know, show and grow in God's love with Christ at the center of our work. We cherish and honor our Japanese American and Japanese-speaking family, heritage and traditions. We also welcome all our members and friends who reflect the diverse people of Los Angeles. We stand united in Christ.
